Cobalt Iron is the global leader in SaaS-based enterprise data protection technology. Founded in 2013, our software platform, Compass™, is deployed in over 40 countries, across all top cloud providers, and operated from 22 global data centers.
Protecting corporate data is paramount but the investment in backup is often an afterthought. While many applications in the enterprise have benefitted from modernization, automation, and SaaS economics, the backup and recovery environment has largely been left to incremental feature improvements. Many believe that it is too complicated, too expensive, or just impossible to break free from the complex, expensive, daily grind of backup and recovery at the enterprise level. But it is possible – we invented it.
Our vision of the future is about “value and outcomes” for customers, not “boxes and tools.” For this reason, our focus is always on eliminating complexity and empowering teams to spend more time on innovation for their customers.
Transform customers’ investments and experience by defining the modern approach to enterprise data protection through simple, secure, automated software-defined solutions.
Change the way the world views enterprise data protection by empowering companies to improve their data protection outcomes and efficiencies through advanced analytics and automation.
Our go-to-market strategy is 100% channel partner driven. Customers benefit from working with trusted, local providers while Cobalt Iron focuses on supporting partners with the most innovative data protection software solution on the market. These relationships enable customers and partners to operate and scale with confidence. Our customers have seen dramatic cost reductions and the elimination of up to 90% of daily backup tasks. We built Compass to handle the complexity of diverse enterprise environments at scale.
The Cobalt Iron Story
Our founder, Richard Spurlock, spent two decades consulting with enterprise teams at some of the largest companies in the world, fixing their infrastructure, and mapping a path to success. It became clear that the problem went beyond properly architecting and deploying products into operational solutions. Operational complexities, management challenges of backup products, and the constantly changing technology environment was overwhelming customers. After some time, a customer’s backup environments became stale, under-invested, and fragile, leading to increased failures and uncertain recovery for enterprises.
After seeing the repeated failures, high costs, increasing product complexities, spiraling data growth, and the growing needs to protect data beyond basic backup and restore, Spurlock set out to develop a solution that would solve the challenges and complexity through technology instead of people. A completely new platform was built with complex enterprise environments in mind. With a passionate focus on delivering this transformational product to the global enterprise backup market, Cobalt Iron was born.
Since its founding in 2013, Cobalt Iron has been solving backup challenges for customers with some of the most complex enterprise data protection environments by delivering real business results and focusing on customer experience and success. We are proud to introduce customers to the value that true enterprise data protection can bring to their organization.
Our experience on the frontlines of enterprise backup coupled with our relentless drive to remove complexity, automate tasks, and promote data protection as a first-class citizen in the IT service portfolio has positioned us to deliver a platform that is on the leading edge of data protection technology.
