Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a technical writer whose primary mission will be to document policies, standards, procedures, create operating instructions, how-to manuals, assembly instructions, FAQs, and other types of documentation. Will work closely with all Cobalt Iron staff including information systems, operations, product engineering, HR and legal. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in writing company-wide policy and procedures. Experience in editing technical papers and marketing collateral is a definite plus. The ability to manage complex projects independently and proactively under tight deadlines is a must for this role. This is a challenging position with very significant growth potential.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, on-site position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation or collateral
  • Study product samples and talk with product designers, developers, test market participants and users
  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products and target marketing offers
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals, images or online videos
  • Standardize content across platforms and media
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers
  • Manage, maintain, and revise documents as new issues arise
  • Using knowledge management tools, capture, record and maintain a foundation knowledge base
  • Work with business units and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)to develop procedures to foster compliance within the ISO framework
  • Interviews internal business SMEs to understand work functions and processes and gather information
  • Develop materials to document operational end-to-end process flows
  • Summarizes recommendations from SMEs for process improvements and other findings
  • Writes detailed policy and procedure documents based on discussions with process owners and identification/creation of process flows with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance with business needs

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with/creating technical documents, ideally in the software industry
  • 2 years of experience working with information technology, product documentation, risk management and incident response documents would be ideal
  • Demonstrated ability to develop process and compliance documentation across multiple subject matter technical areas
  • Experience creating documents covering ISO, PCI or other standardization framework and privacy compliance
  • Experience with globally dispersed teams in large corporate organization
  • Some experience contributing to marketing programs for technical products or services is a plus
  • Policy framework experience preferred​
  • Expert skills with Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and other word processing tools
  • Experience using one or more workflow documentation application
  • Experience with data backup, storage, archive, and recovery processes is a plus
