Data Domain

Leverage existing hardware investments while moving to a far superior software-defined solution with ADP

BACKUP WOES WITH DATA DOMAIN

Proprietary deduplication and compression appliances were once viewed as reliable approaches to curb the explosion of backup data. As products like Data Domain expanded in the market, customers became aware of the costly realities of deploying this legacy solution design. Appliance management, network traffic consumption, growing appliance costs, and restore problems drove clients to ask for a new and modern approach.

PROBLEM

Data Domain appliances are cost-prohibitive and difficult to manage

SOLUTION

ADP leverages the power of new, low cost and highly durable storage technologies

OUTCOME

Modernized data protection delivering value through automation and analytics

THE PROPRIETARY TRAP

Proprietary backup solutions used to equate to fast, now they equate to expensive. Data protection costs are soaring and proprietary appliance solutions are over-priced and difficult to manage. Averaging over $1,000 per terabyte for one copy of data, Data Domain quickly becomes financially prohibitive and operationally overwhelming.

SaaS TO THE RESCUE

By delivering a software-defined solution, ADP harnesses the power of new, low-cost and highly durable storage technologies such as object storage, virtualization, and cloud storage. Leveraging COTS storage designs, the ADP solution averages under $750 per terabyte for two copies of data in two locations, reducing the cost of backup storage by over 50%.

ADP COMMANDER

ADP’s Commander provides provisioning, management, monitoring, and automation across the entire enterprise from a single pane of glass. By integrating with Data Domain we allow clients to leverage existing hardware investments while moving to a far superior software-defined solution with ADP.

Last quarter EMC’s Data Domain refresh proposal was just under $20 million. Fortunately, the IBM team introduced ADP and we were able to deliver an analytics driven solution for under $10M.
