After an outage halted billing, EDESAL rebuilt on cloud-native protection.
EDESAL S.A., the leading electricity distributor in San Luis, Argentina, serving 250,000+ customers, modernized onto IBM Power VS with Compass — guided end-to-end by IBM Business Partner Efra-Ing.
The challenge
EDESAL's core commercial systems ran on aging on-premises IBM Power7 and Oracle infrastructure with a fragmented backup environment. When a hardware failure triggered a complete outage, the company could not send invoices, process payments, or serve customers. High, inflexible licensing costs, long and inconsistent restore times, compliance gaps from a lack of centralized governance, and limited scalability made the case for a full modernization to IBM Power Virtual Server on IBM Cloud.
The outcome
With Efra-Ing and Cobalt Iron, EDESAL deployed Compass — the only solution purpose-built for IBM Power VS — completing the project in under three months. Production runs in the IBM Cloud Dallas region supporting AIX and Oracle workloads, replicated to Washington, D.C. for geographic resilience. A single console replaced fragmented TSM and RMAN, Zero Access® architecture and immutable backups added ransomware resilience, and EDESAL now runs Power10 workloads on IBM Cloud with predictable recovery and room to grow.
