IBM chose Compass to unify backup across its own infrastructure.
IBM's Chief Information Officer organization deployed Compass to give 400 application owners a single portal for managing and protecting tens of petabytes of critical production data.
The challenge
IBM's security standards require backup calibrated to each application's business criticality. With ~400 application owners across the enterprise, the CIO organization needed every owner to be self-sufficient — able to configure, schedule, and execute backups without central IT support. Multiple siloed backup practices created inconsistency, overhead, and risk.
The outcome
Compass — alongside IBM Storage Protect and IBM FlashSystem — gave the CIO organization one centralized, cloud-based platform: a single portal where application owners run their own backup operations under enterprise policy, across AIX, Linux, Db2, containers, and more.
